What Trophies are we playing for from Under 10 upwards
Major Champions and Runner's Up
The main aim of all competitive teams is to finish on top of their competition table at the end of the regular season. This is the performance that is recognized world wide as the highest achievement in football. i.e. to be the most consistent team over the whole season. The Manly Warringah Football Association (MWFA) will present Major Champion and Runners Up trophies at Presentation ceremonies held on Finals Day at the end of the season.
Minor (Knock-Out) Champions
In addition, the MWFA also runs an end-of-season Minor Championship to determine Knock-Out Champions on Finals Day.
The Minor Championship is determined in two ways depending on how many teams are in the Competition.
Ten & Twelve Team Competitions (determined using regular Knock Out games):
At the end of the regular season, the top four teams play in Knock-Out Semi Final games (1st vs. 4th and 2nd vs. 3rd). The two Semi-Final winners then play each other in a Knock-Out Final on Finals Day.
Six & Eight Team Competitions (determined using Round Robin Semi-Final & Pennant Series games)
The Round Robin Series is a different means of deciding the Minor Championship at the end of a season, in a way that provides flexibility for re-scheduling games in the event of extensive wet weather. It is only able to be applied to six or eight team competitions, but does provide an exciting conclusion to a season for all teams in the competition, not just the top four.
At the end of the regular season, a draw is made for a three week Round Robin involving the top four teams (in a Semi-Final Series) and the teams finishing 5th and below (in a Pennant Series). Please note the following important points:
- The Round Robin Games are NOT Knock-Out Games
- They are played to the same rules as for the League Championship
- A separate Competition Table is kept for these games, with Competition Points awarded, and goals for and against recorded, exactly as for the League Championship just completed.
- The top two teams at the completion of the three game Semi-Final Round Robin will compete in the Knock-Out Final on Finals Day.
- The top team at the completion the three game Pennant Series Round Robin will be awarded the Pennant on Finals Day.
- If teams are equal on Round Robin Competition Points, they will be separated as follows:
- By goal difference over the Round Robin. Then, if still equal,
- By the overall total of Competition Points over the League and Round Robin combined. Then, if still equal,
- By the overall goal difference over the League and Round Robin combined.
Rules for Knock-Out Games (NOT Round Robin Games)
If scores are level at Full-Time in Knock-Out Semi-Finals or Finals, then:
- Extra time of 10 minutes each way will be played with the team scoring the first goal (a Golden Goal!) declared the winner.
- If no Goal is scored during the extra time, then:
- For Juniors Teams (i.e. Under 10 to Under 15)
- The Team that scored the most corners during extra time will be declared the winner.
- If both teams scored an equal number of corners during extra time, then the team that scored the first corner during extra time will be declared the winner.
- If no corners are scored in extra time, then;
- For Semi-Finals, the team placed highest in the League is declared the winner.
- For Finals, the two teams shall be declared Joint Minor Premiers.
- For Seniors (Under 16 and older)
- If no goal is scored in extra time, the game shall be decided by the taking of penalty kicks in accordance with the ruling of the International Board.
Champion of Champions
In each group, the Major Champions of Division 1 go on to represent Manly Warringah in the Soccer NSW Champions of Champions competition. This winner of 'Champion of Champions' can truly claim to be the best club side in their age group in the State.
The Champion of Champions competition is run for all ages from Under 10s through to Over 35s and Premier League in both men and ladies competitions, and is a knock out competition played after the normal MWFA season ends.
Competing in and winning Champion of Champions should be ultimate aim for all our teams.
The young ones of the CC Strikers. The ages in this group range from the Under 6's to the Under 9's. These guys play on the 1/2 fields for Under 6-Under 8 and the 3/4 field for Under 9. Our 1/2 fields can be found at St Matthew's Farm while our Under 9's play at Plateau Park and Trumans Reserve in Cromer Heights.
Note For Parents
Young children make friends with their team mates, but they are transitional friends, especially for the boys, and don't actually form closer friendships until they reach the ages of 7-9.
In the under 6's, ages range from 4 to 6, and at the end of the year some children will progress to the under 7's while some of the team will remain in the under 6's.
Unfortunately when only one or two of the team are staying behind, quite often parents insist that their child move up an age group with the rest of their team. For under 7's and 8's there are no rules stopping a younger child playing in a higher age group, but there are age restrictions for all ages from under 9's to under 18's
The result is that a younger child will have to stay in under 8's till they achieve the necessary age to move on to under 9's, at a time when they starting to form real friendships.
The club has seen this problem occur many times, and asks that parents consider what is good for their children.
The youngest members of CC Strikers. Ages in these competitions range from 4 year olds to 6 year olds.
Having become use to the basics of the game of soccer, the Under 7's start to extend on the basics.
Being their last year on the 1/2 fields, the Under 8's grow out of playing in a pack and really spread out. The final preperation into the player's introduction into the full-size fields takes place here.
The final year of being a sub-junior. These guys and gals play on the select 3/4 fields, where the grounds are bigger and so are the goals. Those that are good enough could even have a chance of playing in the coverted "Strikers Cup".
